The Mead Recipe we include is Joe's Ancient Orange Mead (also known as JAO), posted by Joe Mattioli on Got Mead around 2003. It's the Mead Recipe many people start with, and we've replicated the Joe's Ancient Orange Mead Recipe here.
Very happy, seals up nicely, could do with a syphon as part of the kit or something to get the mead out but very nice kit anyways
I bought this kit after finding the JOAM recipe. A popular first recipe which Almost Off Grid writes about as an introduction to mead and has a link to this kit. Everything is very well made and ample for making this recipe from start till bottling. The only other things you'll need to buy, apart from the ingredients, is a siphon and bottles. The size is just right as you don't wish to make a huge batch for your first try. This will make about 6 bottles. I've deducted 1 star for an unusual reason. The bucket is very sturdy and well made but getting the lid off is quite difficult. It's almost too well made. It takes quite a bit of energy and will result in some movement of the bucket which is not good for stirring up the lees at the bottom after fermentation. Ideally you need to do this as gently as possible so your mead remains clear. But all-in-all i'm very happy. Cheers!
Cool to brew a little bit of the bubbly for quite cheap
Easy to use instructions clear. Only give it 4 stars as mead is not yet quite finished just waiting ask me again in two months.
All the things you need to start of your first mead. Including a brilliant recipe to follow that had me giggling.
