If you want to have a go at making your own traditional Honey Mead, this Starter Mead Making Kit complete with a beginner's guide is for you.
There is a 10 litre bucket included so you can make up to 10 Litres / 20 Pints /2 gallons of mead. You can re-use the equipment year after year.
The recipe, which is included, is ideal for complete beginners to make a 4.5 litre batch of honey mead, so you simply double it if you have a lot of honey and want to make 10 litres*. Most of the ingredients you need, such as honey and raisins, will already be in your kitchen cupboard. Included in the kit are:
- One food grade 10 litre brewing bucket in which you make your mead from start to finish
- One tight fitting food grade bucket lid, bored with a hole, fitted with a grommet
- One bubbler airlock which fits inside the grommet in the lid
- One sachet of top quality mead yeast, sufficient to treat 23 litres of liquid
- A stick on thermometer strip to monitor temperature
- A measuring jug
- A hydrometer to measure the alcohol content of your mead and to help determine when fermentation has stopped
- A piece of syphon tubing for bottling
- A plastic tap which fits in the end of the tubing, to control the flow of mead when bottling
- 12 reusable corks with white plastic tops which fit standard bottles and don't need a corker (you push them in by hand) - ideal for use with recycled bottles
- A simple mead recipe, ideal for beginners.
This mead kit is perfect for anyone new to wine and mead making.
Please note ingredients (other than mead yeast) and bottles are not included.
*if you don't have enough honey to make 10 litres of mead, you will be better off with a 4.5 litre Mead Making Kit which we also sell. That is because you do not want a large gap between the surface of the liquid and the lid as lots of air in a large gap is difficult to keep sterile. The smaller the gap, the better.
